Requirements
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of application. Most candidates are 20+ years old, as CELTA is an intensive course requiring a certain level of academic and professional maturity.
  • Native and non-native English speakers are welcome to apply. Non-native speakers must demonstrate an advanced level of English (equivalent to CEFR C1 or higher). Applicants should have strong written and spoken communication skills to effectively teach English.
  • While a university degree is not required, candidates should have a level of education equivalent to entry-level higher education (A-levels, IB, or equivalent qualifications). Candidates must be able to cope with the academic and linguistic demands of the course.
  • No prior teaching experience is required. CELTA is designed for both new teachers and those with some teaching experience looking for a formal qualification.
  • Candidates must complete a pre-course language awareness task to assess their ability to analyse and understand English grammar and usage. Strong motivation to learn teaching methodology and develop classroom skills.
  • A strong willingness to learn and accept constructive feedback. Good time management skills, as CELTA is demanding. Confidence in interacting with students and adapting teaching techniques.
