Short description Teaching English for the Egyptian Baccalaureate is a practical teacher-development course designed to prepare English teachers for the new inquiry-based system. Through modelling, collaborative planning and microteaching, participants learn how to develop students’ language proficiency, reasoning, evidence use and independent learning.

  • explain the principles and expectations of English teaching within the Egyptian Baccalaureate system;
  • interpret the coursebooks’ content objectives, language objectives and assessment requirements;
  • plan coherent lessons and units using inquiry-based and concept-driven approaches;
  • develop students’ justification, reasoning and use of evidence through the JRE+ framework;
  • teach reading, listening, speaking and writing as integrated communicative skills;
  • teach vocabulary and grammar meaningfully within relevant contexts;
  • explain and teach important linguistic areas such as hedging, modality, evaluative language, cohesion, register and academic argumentation;
  • develop students’ critical reading, media literacy and information-evaluation skills;
  • organize effective discussions, debates, presentations and collaborative activities;
  • teach analytical, reflective, persuasive and formal writing for different audiences and purposes;
  • teach the prescribed graded reader through comprehension, literary analysis, inquiry and creative response;
  • design and use formative and summative assessments with clear success criteria;
  • provide accurate, constructive and developmentally appropriate feedback;
  • differentiate learning for mixed-ability classes and different school contexts;
  • adapt coursebook materials without losing the intended learning outcomes;
  • use technology, media and artificial intelligence appropriately and responsibly;
  • evaluate their own teaching and establish meaningful professional-development targets;
  • demonstrate these competencies successfully through six hours of assessed teaching practice.
Requirements
  • be practising English teachers, trainee teachers, academic coordinators or teacher trainers;
  • have sufficient English proficiency to participate in professional training, analyze texts, complete written assignments and teach lessons in English;
  • have a basic understanding of English-language teaching and lesson planning;
  • be willing to participate actively in collaborative planning, discussion, observation and reflection.
  • be able to complete six hours of assessed teaching practice;
  • have access to a computer or mobile device and reliable internet when required.
